Maine has joined California, Arkansas, and Louisiana in an unholy foursome of freedom hating legislative nonsensery. Starting tomorrow, it will be illegal to smoke in your car while anyone under the age of 16 is present. That’s right, Maine has banned smoking in your own car.
I don’t smoke, in fact I actually think that people who smoke around their kids are terrible parents, but making a law against it? Absurd. It’s just one more step towards the ultimate nanny state. Don’t like something? BAN IT! Thomas Jefferson is no doubt spinning wildly in his grave. I can’t wait for the day when he returns to the land of the living with zombie Ben Franklin and sets today’s lawmakers straight.
The next step WILL be the banning of smoking inside your home, then the banning of smoking entirely, and judging by the tremendous success of the War on Drugs, I’m sure the War on Cigarettes will be an equally fantastic home run. Goodness knows thats just what we need: More War.
