Another Frankfurt Unveiling: Volvo to launch their C30 Efficiency

Volvo C30 Efficiency

Another unveiling looking to make a stir at the Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany this September will be the 2008 Volvo C30 Efficiency. For the new version of the already new C30 Volvo will be swapping out the 230-hp T5 engine and replacing it with a 1.6 liter turbo-diesel. The design and gearing of the fuel sipping diesel is to lower the CO2 emissions of the car to 120g/km2 and to achieve a lofty 62.8 mpg.

The aerodynamics of the C30 were also slightly altered to aid in the fuel mileage of the car. The chassis was lowered and a new spoiler and rear bumper were added to reduce the drag of the car. They also added panels beneath the car to smooth the wind travel beneath the car.

The C30 has already accumulated some praise to Volvo for their strides in improving their exterior styles and revamping their boxy reputation. With the C30 Efficiency Volvo is further enhancing their industry leading Environmental image. Now you can add Tax Saver to those credentials as the C30 Efficiency will be exempt of London’s Congestion Tax and will thus save its owner (if a London commuter) the daily price of admission.

A note for the wise though. As usual I would not get my hopes up that the C30 Efficiency is bound for the U.S. While the efficiency would be pleasing the Volvo price point and the lack of horsepower will likely turn away many American drivers.

Volvo P1800: Koenigsegg-Treated

Sweden’s two most popular auto makers are undoubtedly Volvo and Koenigsegg. While they may be from the same country, their visual interpretation of what a car should be differs. Volvo is the sensible, practical, and safe way to get from point A to B. Koenigsegg, wants to get from point A to B the fastest way possible. At the middle of these two poles is Mattias Vocks, who has a day job at Koenigsegg but turns into Batman at night and develops pimpified Volvos. Take this P1800, a sexy 60’s svelte that’s been given the proper makeover by Vocks. He enhanced the curves of the car, placed necessary aero parts, and gave it a monstrous engine. It will be powered by a 4.4 liter, turbocharged V8 yanked from the XC90. Fitting the massive engine to a six-speed manual, thick clouds of smoke from the rear wheel should be normal. Production is expected in the horizon for this baby and expect the waiting list to be long and distinguished.
